3 eco-friendly Father’s Day gifts he’ll love

While your family goes green, it might just make others green with envy!

NOT only is Sunday, June 19 Father’s Day, but the whole month of June is dedicated to National Environment Month. So, why not go green with an eco-friendly Father’s Day gift? This is a great way to show your appreciation for the special man in your life while also caring for the planet.

Here are three eco-friendly ideas to celebrate Father’s Day.

A thrift-store experience

The easiest way to reduce your carbon footprint is to buy second-hand or thrift items. From books to sports equipment, picture frames and CDs, our local thrift stores offer a range of items. Why not make a day of it and browse the aisles together – the man of the hour can choose something he likes while you foot the bill.

Go green, literally, with plants

A small potted plant is a great green gift for dads with an office job. Plants like spekboom are easy to maintain and are known for air-cleaning properties. A touch of green has also been said to reduce stress and increase productivity. A cactus is also a great office plant as it requires little maintenance. Let Dad know you are thinking of him. Another option is to buy seeds to plant in the garden together.

Reusable anything

There’s no denying the negative impact of single-use plastic – reusable alternatives make great gifts. Opt for a reusable water bottle or storage container for packed lunches, or a travel mug – all make great options. You can even have them personalised with his name on them – as an inside joke.
