Suspects arrested for Effingham armed robbery

One of the suspects was found in possession of a toy gun.

THREE suspects were arrested on Friday last week for their part in an armed robbery of two pedestrians on Effingham Road.

According to Sanveer Sooklall, spokesperson for Swift Private Security, the incident took place at about 20:30.

“The victims were walking home along Effingham Road when they spotted a blue vehicle pull alongside them. Two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and held the victims up. One suspect had a firearm, and the other had a knife.

“While the victims were being searched by the suspects, a scuffle broke out and the victim was stabbed. The suspects managed to flee the scene with the victims’ valuables. The suspects were then spotted by Swift Security response officers and were stopped on Corobrik Road. Two suspects, who were in the vehicle, were arrested, and a toy handgun was recovered,” he said.

Sooklall said a third suspect was later apprehended on Effingham Road with a knife in his possession.

“All valuables were recovered and returned to the victims. The suspects were handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS,” he said.
