It’s all about the ‘fit life’

Here's your Monday motivation. Keshia Pather, one of Durban's top fitness fanatics says hard work and consistency will always pay off.

KESHIA ‘Kesh’ Pather, better known as Kesh Fit Life to her thousands of online followers has achieved the body she has always dreamed of.

She uses her social media platforms, especially Instagram to inspire others by sharing her fitness story.

Fitness advice, meal ideas, exercise videos, some of her personal life and her everlasting love for Oreos are shared on her accounts.

In 2015, Kesh found herself unhappy with her body and was low on self-esteem, so she decided to change that.

With all the online platforms at her disposal and guidance and tips from her gym mates, Kesh started to build muscle.

Fast-forward to 2022, with the correct nutrition and weight training, Kesh is in her happy place.

“It has taken tons of trial and error to get to where I am. There is no quick fix. No crash diet or crash exercise plan – it really is a journey and I’ve had to have the patience for it,” she said.

Here are Kesh’s top five fitness tips:

1. Your mindset is your biggest challenge, so get on the right track with that first before starting your fitness journey – remove all negative distractions from your space as well.

2. Start with baby steps – try making small changes in your life rather than big ones, like adding more veg into your diet, and adding two/three more glasses of water in your day.

3. Weight training will help more than endless hours of cardio – introduce weight training into your workouts at least three times a week – try and have a planned routine for the week rather than just playing it by ear. You will see better results this way.

4. Your Nutrition is 80% of the journey, so make sure you are not trying to out-train a bad diet! However, quitting everything cold turkey will most likely result in binge eating so plan it out for the week with treat meals and a balanced lifestyle that is sustainable for a long period of time.

5. Rest is vital on this journey. Try and get at least seven to eight hours of sleep daily, so your body is able to recover and your performance levels will improve.
