Security officers nab Durban North housebreaking suspect

The man was found with goods that he stole from the property.

AN alleged housebreaking suspect was arrested in Gainsborough Drive in Durban North yesterday.

Marshall Security officers arrested the repeat offender for the second time in two weeks. He was recently released due to lack of evidence.

“Officers found that the front gate to the property had been forced open. When response officers entered the property, they noticed a suspect carrying a gas cylinder, which he immediately dropped and started to flee,” said Marshall spokesperson, Tyron Powell.

After a short foot chase and search, the man was also found. He also various jewellery pieces in his possession.

“The jewellery had been stolen from the same property from which he fled,” said Powell.

The suspect was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS and was charged for housebreaking and theft.

“We urge residents to not become complacent with their security over the holiday period. Remember to keep alarm systems armed, both when home or away. A shocking 60% of the incidents we respond to, the alarm systems aren’t armed,” he said.
