Delivery truck driver dies in Connaught Bridge collision

The wreckage was cleared three hours later.

ONE person died and six others were treated for moderate to serious injuries after a collision on Connaught Bridge at midday today.

“The driver of this truck then slammed head on into a delivery truck, which was traveling south. The force of this impact pushed the delivery truck into a Toyota Tazz some 20m to 30m away from where the collision started,” he said.

The driver of another vehicle escaped the collision but crashed into a set of traffic lights.

“The driver of the delivery truck was declared dead by medical personnel at the scene,” said Powell.

Traffic came to a standstill for several hours. The scene was cleared by about 15:30 and the road was re-opened.

The cause of the accident is unknown. SAPS will be investigating.
