Ward 110 councillor excited to take up new post

Aamir Abdul says residents withing the ward want real and tangible service delivery to address their needs.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward 110 candidate, Aamir Abdul is relishing the opportunity to create change following last week’s Local Government Election results.

The councillor position for Ward 110, which includes Sunningdale, Glen Anil, Mount Royal and Mount Moriah, was previously held by ANC candidate, Bongumusa Dludla, after a by-election earlier this year.

Abdul said he is excited for the challenges that lay ahead.

“It has been a long run-up to the elections, however, I’m excited about the challenges ahead. As ward councillor, I have the opportunity to address and fix issues in Ward 110. I feel the more you understand the community you are serving, the better you can serve the community. I’m glad the community has spoken and given me the opportunity to amplify their voices,” Abdul said.

He added the Municipal Demarcation Board has changed the boundaries in Ward 110, and Southgate, Daleview and Rainham in Phoenix have been incorporated into the new boundary lines.

Moving forward, Abdul said it was clear that greater focus on young people, who are first time voters, is needed.

“I think all residents within this ward want real and tangible service delivery to address their needs. I’m overwhelmed with the support shown. There is still a great deal of work to be done and I intend to work hard to rectify that,” he said.
