SA’s Covid-19 Vaccine Certificate System goes live

Only a person who is fully vaccinated can retrieve a digital copy of their Covid-19 vaccine card.

THE South African Covid-19 Vaccine Certificate System went online on Tuesday, without an announcement from the Department of Health. This may indicate it is still in it’s testing phase.

In his address, prior to moving the country to Lockdown Level 1 on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa made mention of the digital vaccination card.

“It can be used to facilitate travel, access to establishments and gatherings, and other forms of activity that require proof of vaccination status,” he said.

A digital copy can be retrieved only for those who are fully vaccinated.

How it works:

  • The person will be asked to choose their “identity type” using a RSA identity number, RSA passport number, or asylum seeker/refugee number.
  • Upon completion of your personal details, a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the number supplied via SMS.
  • The OTP can then be entered to access the final, digital Covid-19 vaccine certificate.
