Stay vigilant when using busy Durban North road

WHILE there isn’t much anyone can do about busy roads and intersections, motorists can be more vigilant, follow the rules of the road and keep to the speed limits, says ward 36 councillor Shontel de Boer.

“The Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway) is a busy road and as there are numerous roads that lead to it, one can expect high volumes of traffic, especially during peak times. It is sometimes difficult for motorists to get onto this road, so one would sometimes have to take a chance,” said de Boer.

Last week five people sustained moderate injuries at the intersection of Kenneth Kaunda Road and Burleigh Crescent.

“In the past motorists were using Burleigh Crescent as a thoroughfare as it was the only road in the area leading to Kenneth Kaunda which had no speed humps. This road was very busy, especially in the mornings and motorists were speeding here as well,” said de Boer.

She added that once the speed humps were installed, the road itself has become quieter and the the speeding has stopped.

“Traffic lights cannot be installed in this vicinity as Kenneth Kaunda is a main road. Also, there is a traffic light further down at the intersection of Old Mill way. I urge motorists to keep to the speed limit on Kenneth Kaunda Road which is 60 km per hour,” she said.
