New whale tail benches unveiled on uMhlanga pier

The unveiling forms part of a broader revamp of the whalebone pier set to continue over the next few weeks.

UMHLANGA’S whalebone pier is now even more iconic with the addition of two whale tail benches installed by the eThekwini Municipality.

The whale tails, installed on both sides of the pier, act as benches and offer the perfect selfie spot or a place to rest while walking along the pier.

According to uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), the installation of two whale seats was completed last week.

“The final bench will be installed soon but where it will be positioned is still to be determined. RHO-Tech installed the benches last week on behalf of the eThekwini Municipality’s Coastal Engineering Department. The project forms part of a broader revamp of the whalebone pier set to continue over the next few weeks. If you are on the promenade, make sure to check them out and enjoy the view,” said Dewet Geldenhuys of the UIP.
