Visitors urged not to take plants from Bridgevale Park

In the most recent incident someone had removed aloes and crassulas from a bed inside the park and at the entrance gate on The Drive.

IN recent years Bridgevale Park and Nature Reserve in Durban North has been transformed into a safe green space with a one kilometre oval shaped track for walkers and nature lovers to enjoy.

The project to beautify and uplift the park was carried out by Enviro Fixers Durban North in collaboration with the City’s Parks Department and an official sign recognising it as a park and nature reserve.

The park is maintained and uplifted through community funding and members have asked visitors to refrain from removing plants or trees from the park.

According to Helen Koch of Enviro Fixers, in the most recent incident someone had removed aloes and crassulas from a bed inside the park and at the entrance gate on The Drive.

“Everything we as Enviro Fixers do in Bridgevale Park is done with the support and help of the community. Every cent is precious and we are 100% community funded. We will continue to do what we love because the planet and our community needs it but we are asking visitors to please not remove any plants or trees from Bridgevale. We were quite dismayed when we discovered that two beds containing aloes and crassulas had actually been dug up and removed.

“We do have an Enviro Fixers WhatsApp group and if the person who removed these plants is interested there are avenues where we can help or point someone in the right direction. Sometimes we have residents doing up their gardens and they’ll say we have this specific type of plant if anyone is looking for it which is also a way to avoid this from happening in the future. We welcome all to enjoy the magnificent green belt right on our doorstep. All we ask is not to remove anything,” Koch said.
