La Lucia housebreaking suspect arrested

After a short foot chase, one suspect was arrested on Addison Drive with suspected stolen property in his possession.

SECURITY officers hit the ground running in La Lucia on Tuesday morning after a report of a housebreaking in progress was reported.

Marshall Security Dispatch Centre received a panic signal from a client in Gainsford Place at 4:30 and was informed that there were suspects on the property.

“Armed reaction officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene swiftly, however, the suspects managed to flee and fence hopped into neighbouring properties,” said Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell.
“The suspects were then seen on another property in Gainsford Place after stealing bicycles. They were disturbed and abandoned the bicycles on the property,” said Powell.
After a short foot chase, one suspect was finally arrested on Addison Drive with suspected stolen property in his possession.

The second suspect managed to evade arrest.

The apprehended suspect was handed over to the Durban North police.

“We were also alerted to other trespassing and attempted housebreakings in Dunford Avenue, and it is presumed that it could be the same suspects involved. The only thing that separates a trespasser from a housebreaker is opportunity. We encourage residents to install and arm outdoor beams for perimeter protection, to ensure an early warning is sounded once a suspect enters your property,” said Powell.

Durban North police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Deokaran, said the suspect is in custody.

“A case of housebreaking and a case of possession of stolen property was opened,” he said.
