Parks Department begins clean-up in Portland Place

PORTLAND Place in Durban North is finally receiving some much-needed attention.

eThekwini Municipality staff were recently seen cutting overgrown trees, which residents raised concerns about earlier this year.

On 4 June, Northglen News published a story on three residents and Eniro Fixers, who were instrumental in getting the clean-up off the ground, together with the area’s ward councillor, Shontel de Boer.

Carry Lambert, of Envirofixers and Durban North Conservancy, said she was pleased to see some action being taken.

“Work started almost immediately after our meeting and we are so pleased with the Parks Department,” she said.

The trio and residents proposed a major clean-up and cutting of the embankments on Portland Crescent and Ellis Park drive.

The embankment, which is moving closer to the road, makes it difficult for two cars to pass each other along these roads.

De Boer expressed her thanks to the eThekwini Municipality for starting with the clean-up. It includes Portland Place, Portland Crescent and Ellis Park Drive.

“I am very excited to see the Parks Department finally cutting the overgrowth in Portland Place, Durban North. The overgrowth was so bad that it was difficult for drivers and pedestrians using this road. I’m pleased that it is finally getting the attention it needs. I extend my thanks to Jay Chetty and his teams who have been working in the area,” she said.
