President to address the nation on country’s response to Covid-19 pandemic

The president’s address follows a meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council, the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet.

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 20.00 on Tuesday (15 June) on the developments in the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The president’s address follows a meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council, the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet.

“As South Africa rolls out its national Covid-19 vaccination programme, government and social partners are continuously monitoring infection, treatment and patient recovery rates, as well as compliance with health regulations and other prevention measures. The President’s address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and international audience,” a statement from the presidency read.

His address comes as infections continue to soar with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) confirming that South Africa is now experiencing the third wave.

In its last communique, the NICD confirmed that 5 552 new cases, which represents a 18.5% positivity rate, have been reported. A further 144 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing the total fatalities to 57 879.
