Resident beautifies, cleans up Durban North

Driven by her goal to beautify Durban North, Entwistle has invited her neighbours to join her in her efforts.

A DURBAN North resident, who has lived in the area for 38 years, has taken it upon herself to get parts of the area cleaned and polished, and is encouraging other residents to do the same.

Ellysa Entwistle, with the help from her staff member, Kila Khumalo, recently shined the street signs on Portland Crescent and surrounds.

However, that’s not the only project the resident has been involved in over the years.

Entwistle has also been instrumental in the upkeep of some of the verges, removing rubble and broken branches and cleaning up Seaton Park Nature Reserve.

“I admire Envirofixers for all the work they do to keep Durban North looking good and wanted to get involved. I approached Rayne Dancaster from the group who advised me to start with small projects and attend to matters which I feel needed attention,” she said.

“Well, there were lots of things that were actually irritating me,” she laughed.

“Some are little things compared to others but they contribute to the deterioration of our area if they are not seen to.”

In the hopes of beautifying Durban North, Entwistle also encouraged her neighbours to plant indigenous plants in their verges, and at least one tree on their properties.

“I’d like to see butterflies and birds flock to Durban North again. Planting trees and indigenous gardens is so important for our wildlife,” she said.
