Join the 5km challenge for Global Running Day

Entrants can complete a 5km run anywhere and anytime between 5am and 11pm and record the race using a smartphone or smartwatch.

THE Run Your City (RYC) Series gives runners the perfect opportunity to celebrate Global Running Day, today, Wednesday 2 June, as they launch the RYC Series Global Running Day 5K challenge on Strava.

Entrants can complete a 5km run anywhere and anytime between 5am and 11pm and record the race using a smartphone or smartwatch to stand a chance of winning a prize.

“We are excited to give the RYC Series Community the opportunity to celebrate Global Running Day virtually with thousands of runners,” said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the RYC Series.

“To be part of the challenge, runners must join the RYC Series Running Club on Strava and click on the orange “I’m in” button displayed next to the Global Running Day 5K event listing. It’s as easy as that,” he added. “To stand a chance to win a pair of PUMA NITRO running shoes to the value of R4000, entrants must share their activities, routes and photos to the RYC Series Running Club on Strava by no later than 11pm on Wednesday. Include the following three hashtags #RunYourCity, #RUNPUMA and #GlobalRunningDay. We can’t wait to celebrate Global Running Day with the RYC Series Community,” said Meyer.

To enter, runners will need to join the RYC Series Running Club on Strava (www.strava.com/clubs/rycs).

If runners have not yet done so, they will need to create a Strava account before they can join the RYC Series Running Club.

Runners can join the Global Running Day 5K on the RYC Series Running Club homepage on Strava by clicking on the orange “I’m in” button displayed next to the event listing.  

All runners must protect their health and safety and that of others by social distancing while running.

Runners are encouraged to stay up to date on the latest news and guidelines from their local and national authorities.
