R320 000 in stock stolen in uMhlanga cellphone store robbery

STOCK to the value of R320 000 was stolen during an armed robbery at a cellphone store at The Crescent in uMhlanga on Thursday. 

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for Durban North Police Station, said the owner and four staff members were at the premises when four armed men entered the store.

“Four of the staff members were in the backroom having a tea break. One pointed a firearm at the two staff members and made them sit in the back corner of the shop,” he said.

“The three other men went up to the display cabinet and forced it open with a crowbar, taking with them eight Apple iPhones and 10 Apple MacBooks. The four suspects then ran out the shop to the roof of the building where they parked their vehicle and fled,” said Deokaran.

He added that the suspects wore face masks and no injuries were reported. A case of business robbery is being investigated.
