Greenwood Park SAPS share safety tips as holiday makers pour in over Easter

With the Easter period and school holidays comes an influx of holiday makers and motorists travelling to the area.

AS the Easter weekend and school holidays draws closer, the Greenwood Park SAPS has shared a list of safety tips to help the community safeguard themselves against crime.

Spokesperson for the Greenwood Park SAPS, Captain Jerome Slater said the Easter period coincides with the school holiday period.

With this comes an influx of holiday makers and motorists travelling to the area.

“Care must be taken when travelling to destinations making sure that your vehicle is roadworthy and licensed. It’s important not to drive while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or to speed,” he said.

Slater urged the community to take security measures when leaving their homes for extended periods of time.

“Law enforcement throughout South Africa will be on high alert and committed to ensure the safety and protection for everyone. We therefore need the community and visitors to be responsible at all times.”

“Secure your premises before leaving, inform neighbours and security companies of your time away and provide a contact number in case of an emergency. Ensure that your pets will be taken care of for the duration,” he said.

Slater also highlighted the importance of child safety during the busy holiday period.

“While on holiday take care of your children especially at the beaches and know their whereabouts and who they are with,” he said.

“Greenwood Park SAPS acting station commander Lt. Col. Sibisi and staff wish you a wonderful Easter holiday. Take care of yourself, family and friends and remember to keep your mask on, sanitise and prevent the spread of Covid-19,” concluded Slater.
