VIDEO: Durban North matriculants celebrate stellar results

Matriculants visited the schools to collect their results.

THERE was much excitement at Northlands Girls’ High School as the class of 2020 arrived to collect their matric results.

School principal Theven Reddy said the matriculants had done their school proud.

“We have done exceptionally well and our girls have done us proud. We have a 100 per cent pass rate yet again with a 91 per cent Bachelor pass . Our girls and educators worked very hard through what was a very difficult year. They managed through lockdown, as well as being introduced to online learning, and did extremely well through the process,” he added.

“During lockdown it was hard to keep up with online lessons, but afterwards our teachers really helped us do the work and do well. My highest mark was 91 per cent for Core Maths. I am planning to study Astronomy at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) this year,” she said.

Another matriculant, Esther Naidoo, said learners needed to take more initiative to excel through online learning.

“I realised that if you want to do well, you just have to work on it yourself. Throughout lockdown, we were getting a lot of assistance from our teachers, but ultimately it was up to you if you decided to work or not,” she said.

She is planning to study Chemical Engineering at UKZN this year.

Top achiever from Durban North College, Mia Fourie, achieved four distinctions.

“Exams were difficult and very stressful especially when some of the papers leaked, the uncertainty was overwhelming. I will be studying HS Phase teaching at Potchefstroom. The subjects I will be specialising in is maths and biology,” she said.

Her advice for the matric class of 2021 is: “Do your homework, it works.”
