SAPS arrest suspected heroin dealer in Redhill drug bust

Various pills were confiscated including blue and white capsules containing powder suspected to be heroin.

A WOMAN (42) was arrested and detained when police caught her with various drugs worth an estimated value of R2500.

Various pills were confiscated from the woman, including blue and white capsules containing a powder substance suspected to be heroin.

Captain Jerome Slater, spokesperson for the Greenwood Park SAPS said the woman was arrested, charged for unlawful possession of heroin and detained.

She appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 17 February.

“Detectives are investigating and profiling the suspect as it is believed that she has previously been convicted of the same offence,” said Slater.

The arrest took place on Tuesday, 16 February at about 3pm.

“Greenwood Park SAPS Crime Prevention members, Constable Ziqubu and Marwa received information from their informant of drug dealing in the Mathambo Informal settlement on Old North Coast Road in Redhill and proceeded there,” said Slater.

The SAPS proceeded on a foot patrol because of the limited space between the closely knit houses in the settlement, and came across a group five people. SAPS noticed the exchange of money and an unknown item between the group, said Slater.

“On noticing the police officers, they ran into different directions to evade arrest,” he said.

SAPS noticed the person who the informant identified and focused their attention on her as she tried to run into her house, explained Slater.

“The members, who were in uniform, identified themselves and found in her possession a few pink capsules containing a powder substance in it. On further inspection they found 60 pink capsules, 47 clear plastic wraps of a yellow substance and nine blue and white capsules containing a powder substance suspected to be heroin,” he added.

“We applaud the community for working with the police in identifying and arresting drug dealers,” concluded Slater.
