Suspects arrested after Glenashley foot chase

The resident gave security officers a description of the suspect which was obtained from CCTV footage.

TWO suspects were arrested in Glenashley after an iPhone was stolen from a Newport Avenue resident.

Tyron Powell of Marshall security said their Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from the resident at approximately 12.15pm.

The resident gave them a description of the suspect which was obtained from CCTV footage.

“Armed reaction officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Our officers viewed the CCTV footage and proceeded to search the area on foot. After a brief search, one of our officers apprehended the suspect near the Glenashley Post Office,” said Powell.

He said the second suspect was arrested shortly thereafter.

“After questioning the suspect as to the whereabouts of the iPhone, the suspect informed us that he had handed the phone to a second suspect nearby and gave us a description of him. Our armed reaction supervisor searched the area and arrested the second suspect, who had the phone in his possession,” added Powell.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS confirmed that a case of theft  was opened and a suspect was detained.
