Smoke testing to diagnose sewer problem in La Lucia

Smoke testing involves forcing smoke-filled air through a sewer line, said councillor, Nicole Bollman.

SMOKE testing will be conducted in La Lucia tomorrow (28 January) to determine the cause of the sewer line issues in the area.

Ward 35 councillor, Nicole Bollman said the smoke testing would mostly affect residents in the vicinity of Churchhill Avenue.

“Smoke testing involves forcing smoke-filled air through a sewer line. The smoke under pressure will fill the main line plus any connections; then follow the path of the leak to the ground surface, quickly revealing the source of the problem. This is perfectly safe and will not harm pets or humans,” she said.

Bollman said there will be a few inspectors in the area who will follow these leaks.

“If someone does come to your property, please be sure to request proof of ID and advise any domestic staff of the possibility of a visit. Please do accommodate these inspectors as this matter does need to be dealt with,” she said.
