Smoke billows from uMhlanga building

Social media lit up as people shared videos of smoke emanating from the building.

A VIDEO showing smoke emanating from a prominent uMhlanga building has caused a stir online among social media users.

Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said they received a call about the fire just before 6pm on Sunday, 3 January. He said one of the residential units was on fire.

“The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries,” he said.

A social media user shared this clip on Facebook.

An emergency response worker known to the Northglen News, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the building was on fire.

“I received videos via one of my emergency volunteer groups. I shared it to the other groups in the area to save lives as well as to prevent any undue traffic issues as I know that part of uMhlanga is always busy daily,” they said.

Netcare 911 shared this photo.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 paramedics that there were no injuries reported.

“All occupants were evacuated,” he added.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed at this stage.
