Of the voters who took to the polls at Durban North College, 98.66 per cent voted for de Boer, casting a total of 958 votes.

At Rosehill Primary, de Boer won 677 votes giving her a 72.72 per cent lead for the district.

Commenting on her victory de Boer said she was amazed at the results.

“I believe the Durban North community recognised me for what I’ve done over the last 11 months as the acting ward councillor. That’s why they came out in their numbers to support me. They have seen that I get things done and I do thing by the book. I think they stood behind me because they saw my work ethic,” she said.

Among her objectives as councillor, de Boer highlighted general maintenance, motivating for a sewer upgrade, addressing electricity outages, upgrading water pipes and educating residents about development to combat illegal development.

“I’ve recognised where there are shortfalls, one of them being the water reticulation project that needs to be completed. I need to get a full report from the water department and motivate for the project to continue even if budget is set aside for one road each year. I’m a hands on person. I enjoy a challenge and I hope to continue the wonderful work counsellors have done before,” added de Boer.

The IEC results report recorded a total of 4466 votes with 36 spoiled ballots.
