Armed robbers storm Durban North home

Various items were stolen including a vehicle which has since been recovered.

TWO suspects, wielding guns and knives, tied up a homeowner while they ransacked his Waterkant Road home at 3.30am on Thursday morning.

Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell, said their armed reaction officers were dispatched to the scene after a Waterkant Road resident called to report a robbery in progress in the unit next door.

“Upon arrival, the victim advised that he had heard noises outside. When he went to investigate, he was confronted by two armed suspects. The suspects forced him back into the house and tied him up while they ransacked the house,” said Powell

Spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS, Captain Raymond Deokaran has urged homeowners to call the police if they hear suspicious noises.

“Residents should be extra vigilant when hearing noises outside their property. Rather phone the police instead of checking it out themselves. In this case the robbers forced the homeowner into the house when he opened his gate to go and check,” said Deokaran.

“The suspects took TVs, household appliances, a cell phone, and his Mercedes X Class. The Mercedes had a tracking device fitted and our Special Operations Team with Matrix tracked the signal to the KwaMashu area where the vehicle was recovered,” he added.

A case of robbery was opened at the Durban North SAPS.
