VIDEO-Yellow-bellied sea snake released off Durban’s coast

The snake had washed up on uMhlanga beach more than two months ago because of the large sea swells along the KZN coastline.

THE highly venomous yellow-bellied sea-snake that was rescued on uMhlanga’s main beach more than two months ago was released back into the ocean last week.

The snake had washed up on the beach because of the large sea swells along the KZN coastline at the time and was discovered by members of the public who mistook the serpent for an eel.

After its rescue the reptile was placed into the care of Carl Schloms, senior herpetologist at uShaka Sea World.

Last week Northglen News joined Schloms and fellow SAAMBR staff on the snake’s release back into the wild, around 30 kilometres off the coast of Durban.
