eMdloti security guard blindfolded, kidnapped at knifepoint

The guard was assaulted during the ordeal and later dropped off on the M27 highway.

AN unarmed security guard was blindfolded, assaulted and forced into a getaway car by suspects armed with a knife and firearm on Sunday.

The guard, who works for Marshall Security, was on a routine foot patrol at about 5.45am in the eMdloti area when he saw the suspects attempting to steal a Toyota Hilux on North Beach Road.
“The suspects, armed with a firearm and knife, noticed that the guard had spotted them and forced the guard into their vehicle as the guard was about to call for backup. The suspects then drove off with the guard leaving behind the vehicle they attempted to steal,” said Tyron Powell of Marshall Security.

The guard was assaulted during the ordeal and later dropped off on the M27 near the M4 Highway.

“The guard did not sustain serious injury and did not require medical assistance. A case of armed robbery, kidnapping and attempted theft of motor vehicle has been opened by the Durban North Police,” said Powell.
