Body found under M4 bridge near uMngeni River

Police are appealing for information on Senzo Ntombela's next of kin after his body was discovered on Tuesday morning.

DURBAN North police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a man, believed to be in his 50s, was found under the M4 Ruth First Highway Bridge on Tuesday morning.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the station, the body of Senzo Ntombela was found on the river bank of the uMngeni River under the M4 bridge.

“Someone patrolling the edge of the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve spotted the body and called police. From the information received from other homeless men in the area Ntombela had been living in Durban for several years. He is originally from Vryheid. There were no signs of struggle or any injuries to his body but officers did find an asthma pump near his body. At this early stage in the investigation we don’t suspect any foul play.

“We have already begun inquiring at hospitals around Durban as we assume he may have been asthmatic. An inquest docket has been opened and we are appealing to anyone who may have information about his family to please come forward,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, detective warrant officer Nelisiwe Sithole on 031 325 6590.
