Plan to rejuvenate Beachwood golf course

AFTER facing the prospect of closure, the Beachwood Country Club is now under new ownership. Durban North resident, Simon Draycott and his business partner, Richard Andriessen have taken over the 90-year-old club and said they had plans to revive and rejuvenate the club for residents and golfers.
Speaking to Northglen News, Draycott, who lives on the course with his family, said he wanted the north Durban community to know the club is in safe hands.
The Durban Country Club (DCC) had sold its Beachwood Golf Course to developers in 2017 and it is believed a multi-million Rand development is still earmarked.

“My family and I and my business partner are now the landlords of the site. Our core focus is to try and grow our membership at the club which has declined in recent years and build a new legacy on one Durban’s best golf courses. We also want to foster a holistic family environment and make this a community club different from all other courses around Durban. Besides improving the golfing experience we’ve also looked at bringing in other facets to the club. Private gym facilities will be available.
“We’ve marked out a five kilometre trail course which will now be used for trail events. We will continue to welcome the bird watching club who explore the mangroves that border the golf course every Sunday. The halfway house is now open under new management. We are also looking at introducing live entertainment to due to popular demand in the Durban north area. We want golfers and non-golfers alike to know that we are here and everybody is welcome,” he said.
While a new lease has been negotiated, Draycott added the future developments could still be in the pipeline.
