A Durban North father worth his weight

Charlton Butt who plays rugby for the Crusaders Sports Club and SA Legends rugby team, took up weight training to keep fit and prepare his body for rugby.

DURBAN North resident and father of four, Charlton Butt enjoys weight training with his children as well as a range of sports including rugby, boxing and running.

“I’m a big believer in spending time with my children. I make a concerted effort to spend time with them when I get home. I’ll play cricket with them in the garden or play with trains with the little one or tea parties with my daughter,” said Butt.

Butt who plays rugby for the Crusaders Sports Club and SA Legends rugby team, took up weight training to keep fit and prepare his body for rugby.

“I believe in involving them. I want them to know there is sport and exercise outside of school. I play club cricket and club rugby. I take the children to as many events as possible and they play on the side of the field. When I go to boxing and weight training I take them with just to expose them,” said Butt.

As a chiropractor, Butt understands the way exercise impacts the body and ensures the children are doing exercises appropriate to their age.

“With weight training, I believe in the correct technique and I like the children to start learning the correct techniques. Phoenix does deadlifts, chin ups – nothing excessively heavy because his body is still young. Evey does boxing, chin ups and weights and she loves the ab roller,” he said.

Butt’s eldest son, Gray is 13.
