Lockdown ‘runathon’ raises more than 30k for street children

Following the success of  the runathon, I Care recently launched a new donation campaign called #WithYouTheyCan.

SOMMERSET Park organisation, I Care raised R38 500 when they challenged the community to the Lockdown Family Runathon recently.

The challenge saw participants run 2,5km or 5km at home any time between 5am and 5pm on the day and donations poured in as some donated above and beyond the entry fee of R25 for children and a R50 entrance fee for adults.

The much needed funds will assist I Care in their work caring for street children in Durban.

Durban North resident, Kate Da Silva was among those who entered the challenge with her children, Jamie and Kai. The family ran the 5km marathon by taking laps around their garden.

“I heard about the challenge and just wanted to make a donation. We wanted to help I Care feed street children,” said Da Silva.

Following the success of  the runathon, I Care recently launched a new donation campaign called #WithYouTheyCan. The campaign encourages the community to donate non perishable food items or offer financial support to I Care.

“We would like to thank everyone who is assisting with making food parcels possible for those in need. Some households are finding these times extremely difficult and food parcels are helping to sustain them,” said marketing manager for I Care, Gail Elson.

Runners who entered the runathon were entered into a lucky draw- I Care announced the winners on their social media page. For more information, call I Care 031 572 6870 or 081 331 5484.
