In all we screened more than 60 vehicles in the roadblock,” said Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station.

Deokaran said police were cracking down on those who broke the rules and said more arrests would be made for those continuing to flout the law.

“We have warned several others about what a lockdown means. We urge residents to have patience and respect the 21-day lockdown as government introduces measures to ensure that social distance is maintained to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” he said.

To date, South Africa has 1 326 cases of coronavirus, with three confirmed deaths.
