Glenhills NPO calls on volunteers to mentor youth

The organisation aims to support under-resourced schools.

A GLENHILLS non-profit organisation, Each One Reach 1 (EOR1) is calling on the community to volunteer their skills toward mentoring youth in the Phoenix community. EOR1 is looking for mentors to offer guidance, academic tutoring and sports mentorship. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend an information day on Thursday, 27 February.

“You would be required to volunteer one day a week. An invitation will be sent to the school and you would be further trained to partner with the school around their needs. Mentors would always work under supervision and within the educator-parent partnership,” said Eshia Govender, founder of EOR1.

The organisation works within schools in the Phoenix area.

“One of our key initiatives is Project HELP (Hope for Educators-Learners-Parents), which aims to provide a platform to support schools,” said Govender.

EOR1 aims to support under-resourced schools with the manpower to drive sustainable transformation in 2020.

“Our purpose is to break the generational cycles of abuse, addictions, GBV and unmotivated behavioural choices through offering learners healthy alternatives. We run workshops focusing on imparting critical skills and experience through story-telling and age appropriate illustrations,” said added.
