Water restored to Glenhills after 30 hour repair

Water restoration was delayed as plumbers waited for a part that they needed to complete the repairs, said ward councilor Pete Graham.

AILING infrastructure and old pipes are behind a  lengthy water outage in Glenhills said Ward Councillor, Pete Graham. Residents in the area were left high and dry from about 6am on Friday, 7 February until midday today as municipal plumbers repaired a burst pipe on Elderberry Drive that affected residents of the road and surrounding area including parts of Rinaldo Road.

“The water went out yesterday at 6am. Plumbers were there the whole day working in the rain, isolating it,” said Graham.

The water burst came after  a pipe was damaged by a tree root, said Graham, and the condition of the pipe raised red flags.
“It was old  pipe that the tree root went through and these old pipes were  supposed to have been replaced years ago,” he said.

Elderberry Drive is expected to present continued pipe bursts going forward, added Graham.

“This burst was about 100m down from the last burst. I have warned residents to keep water on stock,” he said.

Water restoration was delayed as plumbers waited for a part that they needed to complete the repairs, said Graham.

The water was back on by 12pm, some 30 hours after the pipe burst.  The eThekwini Municipality had not send their comment at the time this article was published.
