Local Dusi veterans ready for fun race

The duo from the Crusaders Paddling Club are looking forward to tackling the Dusi in a K2 canoe.

IN 2012, the Evered-Hall family became the first-ever crew, spanning three generations to complete the Dusi Canoe Marathon, consisting of grandfather, Tony, ‘Ant, father, Mark and his son, Josh.

Mark would go on to make history again in 2016 by completing the Dusi with his daughter and father spanning three generations again.

Now he is set out to make some personal history by completing his 27th Dusi marathon this year.

Evered-Hall will combine with uMhlanga resident, Trevor Kieck, who is set to complete his 26th marathon.

“We work really well together. We paddled together last year and we just gel really well in the boat. I feel our understanding and the fact that we’ve done four Dusis together will stand us in good stead. Although I do have to carry Trevor for two and a half days in the running sections,” quipped Evered-Hall.

His K2 partner, Kieck also spoke highly of Evered-Hall and their bond as a paddling duo.

“We’ve done so many events together and I feel we communicate well when we are in the boat. We both anticipate how to approach a rapid or a portage and that’s helped our bond strengthen on and out of the water.
“Ultimately for the Dusi, we are going to have fun and not to be too competitive. We are both hoping to continue to do as many Dusis as possible,” he said.
