New race to light up triathlon scene

The event takes place over three days, from Friday, 31 January until Sunday, 2 February.

MIWAYLIFE in conjunction with local Prestondale resident Glen Gore and Triathlon Plus SA Events, are staging the MiWayLife 226 Brick Challenge at Midmar Dam. The event takes place over three days, from Friday, 31 January until Sunday, 2 February.

The first day will see the triathletes take to the water and do a 3.8km swim. This swim will take place on Friday afternoon at 2pm. This will give the athletes travelling from Gauteng and surrounds an opportunity to travel up in the morning, register for the event, freshen up and then do their swim.

There will be four swim distances on offer on day 1 (from 950m up to 3.8km in distance) explained Gore.

The second day will see the athletes take on a four loop 45km bike course totalling between 45km and 180km.

The organisers have introduced a pit-lane zone area for the bike leg which will allow for personal seconding at the start of each new lap. This is an old school approach from back in the day when families, friends and spouses were allowed to help their athletes.

The third day will see athletes tackle either a full marathon or distances that vary from (31km right down to 10.5km) with a mass start early in the morning for everyone. The marathon will span 4 loops of 10.55km and will stay within the confines of the dam resort area. A relatively flat marathon course will ensure some good times over the 42km distance.

“This is the 1st marathon of 2020 in KZN where runners can actually qualify for the Two Oceans and Comrades Marathons. At the completion of the run events, times will be added up and winners and overall race results announced with the final times for each athlete being tallied up – swim + bike + run = finish time,” Gore said.
