‘Don’t accept help from strangers’ UKZN warns students

All members of staff are issued with a staff identification card and will produce it on request.

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal is urging students not to accept any help from strangers during the busy registration period.

In statement on their Facebook page they said it had come to its attention that there may be people operating on their campuses purporting to be employees of the university offering to assist students with registration in return for remuneration and/or favours.

“This is unacceptable and students who have experienced untoward behaviour are urged to report any instances to Risk Management Services immediately or approach university officials for assistance. Anyone found to be extorting money from students will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

The executive director for Student Services, Dr Rose Laka-Mathebula advised students to engage with bona fide members of staff for assistance with registration. All members of staff are issued with a staff identification card and will produce it on request.

“Students are reminded that the university does not accept cash and all payments made must be via direct bank deposit,” she said.
