WATCH: Heartbreak as rescued animals return to kennel after adoption day

PACT founder, Neeri Naidoo said they do not have their own premises to house rescued animals

ANIMAL rescuer, Neeri Naidoo of  Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT)  said it was a “heart breaking moment” as she returned animals to kennels after an adoption day recently.

PACT hosted several ‘adoption days,’ in various locations from Durban to eMdloti, in a bid to find homes for animals as their time in kennels reaches the limit. An adoption day offers the community an opportunity to meet the dogs that are up for adoption. Adoption days were hosted over the past two weekends.

Naidoo said as an NPO, PACT’s biggest challenge is that they do not have their own premises to house rescued animals and rely on various kennels to offer spaces.

While Naidoo has found foster homes for all of the animals, she is still urgently looking for ‘forever homes’ for some seven dogs.

This video of a dog named Toby, shows a PACT volunteer carrying the dog into the kennel after it refused to get out of the car.

“Overall we have 30 dogs and 15 cats looking for homes,” she said.

Despite these dire straits, Naidoo refuses to give up on her rescue dogs.

“No one is going to be put down. For now, we are not even considering the possibility that the dogs won’t be adopted. We are being hopeful they will get the second chance they deserve,” she said.

Those interested in adopting a pet can meet the dogs and fill out an application form.

“We do strict adoption applications including home checks and adoption fees apply,” said Naidoo
