Mount Edgecombe golfers celebrate success

The ladies team from Mount Edgecombe Country Club (MECC) won all three divisions of the league for 2019.

MOUNT Edgecombe Country Club recently hosted their ladies golf section AGM and there was cause for great celebration with the announcement of the Ladies team from Mount Edgecombe Country Club (MECC) having won all three divisions of the league for 2019 – a mammoth and almost unheard-of achievement.

The MECC league teams were made up of 30 female golfers who play in 29 matches throughout the year against other local clubs in the region. The Durban Region confirmed that MECC won this year’s KZN Betterball League division, the Singles League division (of which the MECC team was undefeated) and the Weekend League division. Further to these accolades and the annual Golf Club awards and recognition handed out during the AGM, congratulations and acknowledgement was also given to two female golfers from Mount Edgecombe Country Club, Sally Anne Hyatt and Isabel Back, who recently won the Windhoek Lager International pairs competition with the final held in Portugal.

“The performance of a Club’s League team is a clear reflection of the strength and position of a Club compared to other Clubs in the country. Mount Edgecombe Country Club is stronger than ever, and we are immensely proud of our Ladies League team. Well done to Louise Langton who successfully captained the league teams to unprecedented victory this year, and to all the participating MECC league ladies on their well-deserved wins,” said Mount Edgecombe Country Club ladies golf captain, Lana Titmas.

A number of MECC’s female golfers were recognized for their selection and representation in various KZN golf teams this past year. Mount Edgecombe Country Club has one of the largest and strongest ladies golf sections in the country, which includes a comprehensive programme that successfully attracts and nurtures beginner golfers through their ‘Bunnies’ programme.

The programme has been a resounding success in shepherding learner golfers through all aspects of golf – from basic lessons, to learning course etiquette, right up to mini competitions. While many country clubs are struggling in today’s tough economic climate, Mount Edgecombe Country Club has focused its efforts on continuing to upgrade and grow their facilities with golf development also taking on a major focus for the club.
