New outdoor gym set for uMhlanga

THE Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre Management Association has announced plans to construct a brand new outdoor gym in the town centre area. The gym will be located in a park just behind the Umhlanga Fire Station building.

According to Justin Newcombe-Bond of the management association, the gym will accommodate 12 apparatus and should be completed before the end of the year this all being dependent on the weather.

“This outdoor gym has been about two years in the planning and will be funded by the Ridge Management Association. The area behind the fire station has been an open space for quite some time now and the management association identified this piece of land due to its proximity to the new Park Square building ,Gateway theatre of shopping and hotels in the town centre area.

“We feel an outdoor gym, similar to the ones installed in various areas around Durban by the eThekwini Municipality, will be a boon for visitors and residents in the area. The project has received positive feedback which is great. The Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre management association feel this will further boost tourism in the town centre area. The area is completely safe and we will have 24 hour security personnel in the area,” he said.

The gym area will also be maintained by the Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre management association’s staff.

“At the moment in the park we have raised steps for runners and walkers in the area and we felt the gym would add a new dimension for those looking to keep active and fit,” he said.
