Help Northwood’s Josh make a splash for Toy Story campaign

For the past three years Josh Crocker has held a 'Big Swim' at his school to help other children less fortunate than him.

LAST year East Coast Radio’s annual Toy Story campaign saw more than 10 000 new toys collected and donated to underprivileged children in government hospitals, orphanages and children’s homes in KZN.

One youngster who has actively supported the initiative is Durban North resident, Josh Crocker, who, for the past three years has held a ‘Big Swim’ at his school to help other children less fortunate than him.

Crocker, a Grade 8 learner at Northwood School, said this year’s event would see participants from different schools swim 60 laps at the school pool all in an effort to drum up support for the campaign.

He has already involved Crawford Prep La Lucia, Northlands Primary School, Our Lady of Fatima DCS and Danville Park Girls’ High School to name a few.

Some of the swimmers who will be taking part on the day.

“The Toy Story campaign provides joy by bringing toys to thousands of children in government hospitals, children’s home and crèches across KwaZulu-Natal. This year is going to be bigger and better and I will hopefully be able to go past 2 000 toys which were collected last year. I urge the local community to come out and support me, all I ask is to bring a toy as an entry fee to come support the swim,” he said.

Erin Swales, a learner at Our Lady of Fatima, said two of her school’s swim teams will be part of this year’s Big Swim.

“It is just a lot of fun and it’s a great way to support such an amazing initiative. All you have to do to participate on the day is bring a toy,” she enthused.

The swim takes place on Friday, 22 November and starts at 10am at Northwood School pool. The only entry fee is a toy.

A collection box has been set up at the school for residents wanting to support the cause. For more information, email marketing@nwood.co.za.
