WATCH: Springboks arrive in uMhlanga and are met by thousands

If you not out in the streets of uMhlanga this morning, you are missing out, get there!

THOUSANDS flocked to uMhlanga’s Centenary Boulevard on Friday, 8 November to celebrate the Springboks after their victory in Japan made them the 2019 World Cup Rugby Champions.

The victory parade started at 8am and continued down uMhlanga Rocks Drive as the champions showed off the Web Ellis Trophy as a gesture of appreciation for their support throughout the World Cup.

The parade will proceed to KwaMashu and to the Durban City Hall where the eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala and the MEC for Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela will be waiting in anticipation to receive the champions in a true Durban style.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who attended the final in Japan, said the historic win was achieved with the passionate support of more than 57 million South Africans who have been inspired by the Springboks’ performances throughout the tournament.

 

“This is a powerful indicator of what we can achieve as South Africans when we set goals for ourselves and we work together to achieve success. This is a moment of inspiration for all South Africans in all avenues of life and all sectors of our society. It is a moment that is embedded forever in our national memory,” he said.

Motorists and members of the public are advised that two lanes along Dr Pixey Ka Seme Street (West Street) will be cordoned off to make way for Springbok Trophy Tour parade.
