Get behind DHS Old Boys running event

The club has included a walkers category for this year's Ignition Oldies 10km run/walk.

DHS Old Boys Athletics Club has urged the community to get behind their upcoming 10km community event at Crusaders Sports Club.

Speaking to Northglen News, Roger Westbrook and Justin Fuller said the club had also included a walkers category for this year’s event.

“Hosting our inaugural event last year we were limited to a 1 000 entries and we managed to attract 970 runners and walkers. Due to the popularity of last year’s event, Athletics South Africa (ASA) has given us the go-ahead to increase the entries to 1 500. So far we’ve had 320 runners enter for this year’s event and we are hoping to grow the event as much as possible,” explained Westbrook.

Club chairman, Justin Fuller said he hoped the community would come out and support the event.

“I would encourage anyone to come along for the joy of the sport. This is a community run and walk and it’s the only race in the Durban North area. It is a very different set-up from the normal beachfront runs which are generally flat. With this run there’s a few hills and challenging sections and we’ve also included a walkers category in the hopes of drawing more people in,” he said.

There will be lucky draws and food vendors on the day.

An added incentive added the duo, the first lady and gent to reach Clinch Crescent win R1 000 (provided they finish the race within a specific time period).

The Ignition Oldies 10km run/walk takes place on Sunday, 10 November at 6am starting and ending at Crusaders Sports Club. Registration takes place on Saturday, 9 November from 10am to 4.30pm. Pre-entries cost R100 while late entries cost R120. You can also enter via www.eventtiming.info.
