Housbreaker nabbed in uMhlanga

The suspect has been handed over to the Durban North SAPS and investigations are ongoing.

A SUSPECT was arrested for housebreaking in uMhlanga last week by the Upper Umhlanga Security Trust (UUST).

Hayden Conradie of the UUST said the suspect had broken into a home on Stanley Grace Crescent.

“The home backs onto the M4. When our officer spotted the suspect a foot chase ensued and the suspect was arrested about a kilometre away from home. He was arrested and handed over to the Durban North SAPS who are following up on leads the suspect provided,” he said.

Conradie said there had also been a break-in on Campbell Drive in uMhlanga last week.

“Through our investigations we have since discovered that some of the empty houses and houses under construction are being used as a safe place for the criminals to hide in. They then move into the surrounding area under the cover of darkness looking for easy opportunities and leave again at first light. That way they blend in with the various workers walking to work. We are now keeping a close eye on these vacant properties,” he said.
