Brand new touch rugby league kicks-off

KZN touch league chairman, Nic Williamson, said he was setting up the league in the hopes of growing the sport and getting more people involved from the community.

MOUNT Edgecombe resident and chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Touch Association, Nic Williamson, is launching a new Touch Rugby league called SuperTouch.

Speaking to Northglen News last week, Williamson, said he was setting up the league in the hopes of growing the sport and getting more people involved from the community.

“Our intention as KZN Touch Rugby is to run our own league as a way of getting more people, young and old involved in touch rugby. It is a great sport for all ages, we have players as young as 12 and as old as 50 playing the game, which is a huge draw card,” he explained.

Williamson who has been chairman of the KZN Touch Association for over two years is also a World Cup silver medalist having represented South Africa in Malaysia in May this year.

“The sport is a high intensity healthy workout with minimal contact and injuries, it’s a lifestyle sport that incorporates the fun aspects and skills of the game of rugby. It is a dynamic and strategic game, where guys and girls can play together, and that is why I believe it appeals to a lot of the players. Within the KZN set up, the camaraderie is great and the pathway to KZN representation is well defined. Our hope is to have anyone who is interested to come to our new SuperTouch league on Wednesdays,” he said.

The first night of the new league is set for this Wednesday, 11 September at Northwood Crusaders Club from 6pm to 9pm. To register a team, or as an individual email: leaguekzntouch@gmail.com.
