New Dougal ready to tackle SPCA trail run

THERE is a new Dougal in town and he is on a mission to raise R35 000 for the Durban & Coast SPCA. Rosehill resident, Mark Maxwell, has taken on the reigns of the SPCA’s beloved mascot following the stepping down of the former mascot, Dale Johnson.

Maxwell is busy training and readying himself for this year’s Durban & Coast SPCA Trail Run and is aiming to complete the 5km race in the mascot outfit.

Northglen News recently chatted to Maxwell to find out how his fundraising journey had progressed.

“I’m friends with Dale Johnson and he was selfless in his devotion to the SPCA for the last five years as Dougal the mascot, so when he said he would be stepping down I approached him to find out whether I could help out. Having run last year’s trail run I felt I could combine two of my passions in life. My love for animals and trail running, so it has merged well together.

“As a family we would always support the SPCA as my grandmother would bring her dogs to the premises for their vaccinations. I’ve seen first hand the passion and dedication of the staff at the SPCA and I’m honoured to be a part of this journey to raise funds for the them. I’ve set myself the goal of raising R35 000 and I’ve spoken to my friends and family and to my work colleagues to get the message out. I would love to see the local community get behind me and support the SPCA,” he said.

Maxwell said he was looking forward to donning the mascot suit for the event.
