Howard College campus protesters are currently disrupting lectures at the Shepstone Building.

PROTESTING students continue to disrupt lectures at UKZN Westville and Howard College.

This afternoon, in a statement, Ashton Bodrick, UKZN’s executive director for  corporate relations said the university’s management would not tolerate violence, damage to property, nor the intimidation of students and staff.

Bodrick said the protesting students were currently causing disruption at J Block. While they had previously disrupted E Block, F Block and the Anatomy Building, lectures in these parts of the university are continuing.

“At the Howard College campus, protestors are currently disrupting lectures at the Shepstone Building,” he said.

He added that there was a strong police presence. “University management has opened a case of public violence and is reviewing video footage of incidents of violence that has occurred during the protest action. This will assist police and Risk Management Services (RMS) to apprehend all those found to be implicated in criminal behaviour.

Every effort is being made to ensure that the academic programme continues uninterrupted.
