Special vote registration opens today

Those who qualify for a special vote will vote on Tuesday, 6 August either by visiting their voting station or through a home visit.

REGISTRATION for special votes is now open to Ward 35 voters making their mark in the upcoming by-election. The registration period will close on Friday, 26 July. The special vote is for anyone who is unable to travel to their voting station on Wednesday,  7 August due to being physically infirm, disabled, pregnant or unavailable on the day. Those who qualify for a special vote will vote on Tuesday, 6 August either by visiting their voting station or through a home visit.

Voters can register for either a home visit or a special vote by logging onto the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) website and filling out the online application form. Applicants will need to enter their ID number and select the option they require.

There is also an option to register via SMS, although this does not apply to home visits. Voters can SMS their ID number to 32249. Completed VEC 1 forms can also be hand delivered to a local IEC office.

To register for a special vote, residents must already be registered voters. To check your status, SMS your ID number to 32810 or call the IEC’s contact centre on 0800 11 800.
