Woman’s burnt remains found in wreckage

A body was found burnt beyond recognition in the driver's seat after the eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services had doused the flames.

A WOMAN’S charred remains were discovered after fire fighters doused the flames of her vehicle that was ablaze on the M4 North bound just passed the M41 offramp between La Lucia and Umhlanga Rocks Drive yesterday at 11:13pm.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the vehicle completely engulfed in flames.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control crashing into a bridge pillar. The eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services had doused the flames and on closer inspection a body was found burnt beyond recognition in the driver’s seat,” he said.

Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care Paramedics who was also on the scene, said the woman is believed to be in her late 30’s.

“No other vehicles were involved,” he added.

Circumstances leading up to the collision will be investigated by the Durban North SAPS who were on scene.
