Frantic search continues for drowning victim at Virginia Beach

The man is presumed to have drowned this morning at around 9.30am.

EMERGENCY services are currently at Virginia Beach where a 27-year-old man is presumed to have drowned.

Details are still sketchy at this point but emergency services believe the man had been caught in the rip tide.

Crisis Medical, Netcare 911 and the eThekwini Fire Department are working feverishly trying to locate the man who was bathing on the beach with friends at the time.

 

It’s believed the bather is a Durban North resident.

Crisis Medical’s Kyle Van Reenen said there was no sign of the man.

Durban North SAPS is currently on scene taking statements from eye witnesses as well as friends who were with the man at the time.

SAPS Search and Rescue, Netcare 911, Crisis Medical as well as the eThekwini Lifeguards are assisting in the search. At this point, the rescue operation has been going on for about 40 minutes but there is still no sign of the man.
