TAKE NOTE: Hill’s Pet Nutrition announces urgent recall of canned foods

The pet food giant has urged pet owners to discontinue use of selected products that contain high levels of vitamin D.

IN a statement posted on their website, Hill’s Pet Nutrition said that high levels of vitamin D could lead to health problems for dogs such as renal dysfunction.

“While vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, ingestion of elevated levels can lead to potential health issues depending on the level of vitamin D and the length of exposure, and dogs may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss,” read the statement.

Pet owners are advised to discard Hill’s™ Science Plan™ Canine Youthful Vitality Stew 354g (batch number 112020T11), Hill’s™ Prescription Diet™ Canine Metabolic + Mobility Stew 354g(batch number: 102020T05), Hill’s™ Prescription Diet™ Canine i/d Low Fat Stew 354g (batch number: 102020T17) and Hill’s™ Prescription Diet™ Canine Derm Defense™ Stew 354g (batch number: 102020T05). Hills has also voluntarily withdrew Hill’s™ Science Plan™ Canine Adult Stew 354g(batch Number: 102020T26) and s™ Prescription Diet™ Canine Derm Defense™ Stew 354g (batch number: 112020T05).

Pets that have eaten these products should be monitored for symptoms.

“Pet parents who purchased the product with the specific batch numbers listed should discontinue feeding and dispose of the product or return unopened product to their veterinary outlet for a refund,” said the statement.
Hill’s added that the recall was isolated to a few batches and that no dry foods, cat foods or treats were affected.
